What CIB/Boxed/Loose mean, what drives the price of a retro game, and how Kabits works out its price ranges - answers to the most common questions.
What do CIB, Boxed and Loose mean?
CIB (Complete In Box) means the game itself (cartridge or disc), box and manual. Boxed means the game and box but no manual. Loose means the game only, with no box or manual. This is the single biggest factor in what a retro game is worth - the same title can differ several times over in price depending on which of these it sells in.
What affects the price of a retro game most?
Completeness (CIB/Boxed/Loose) weighs heaviest, followed by how rare or sought-after the title is, region and TV standard (PAL/NTSC), and the physical condition of the game (cartridge or disc), box and manual - for Nintendo games, Nordic variants such as SCN/SWE/EEC carry particular weight. A popular game in poor condition can be worth less than a lesser-known one in perfect condition.
Are Kabits' prices asking prices or real sale prices?
Real sale prices. Kabits only counts completed, concluded purchases - not live listings or auctions that never drew a bid. An asking price says very little about what a game is actually worth; a completed sale says a great deal.
Why do prices differ between Tradera, eBay and Blocket?
Partly currency (eBay prices are converted from EUR/USD), partly audience - Tradera and Blocket are Swedish/Nordic markets while eBay is international and can sit at different price levels for the same title. Kabits gathers all three sources so the full price range is visible, not just one marketplace's view of it.
How often are the prices updated?
Kabits ingests new listings and completed sales continuously, around the clock. The price guide pages (e.g. kabits.se/en/nes-prices) are computed on every page view from the latest data, not served from a cached snapshot.
